The management of traffic speed is an issue facing many
organisations. We at Roadside Technologies can offer you solutions
to help. We have a range of products including speed display barrows
and hand held radar guns.
The hand held device, which can also be tripod mounted, can be used
to check on driver’s speed either driving towards the gun or away
from it. If a driver has broken the site limit, the incident can be
recorded and he/she subsequently advised of the error or his/her
ways.
Typical uses include speed enforcement for community safety
programs, such as school zones and local neighbourhood speed
monitoring. Our units have directional operation - being able to
display approaching or receding traffic, or both. For example, in
heavy traffic situations, the operator can choose to make traffic
moving in one direction "invisible" to the radar, thereby
concentrating on the most problematic lane.

From the Manchester Evening News report of 2nd April 2011:
Villagers armed with radar guns aim to catch speeding
drivers
The scheme was piloted by police in Newhey after they received a
high number of complaints about drivers breaking the 30 mph limit on
Huddersfield Road. They looked for at least four volunteers to be
trained in how to use the equipment and then work shifts monitoring
the road.
It is the first time the tactic had been used in Greater Manchester,
but police said it had been trialled in Derbyshire and
Nottinghamshire to good effect.
A police spokesman told the local residents' forum that volunteers
would work in pairs and would wear high-visibility vests. He said:
"I think it's a pretty good scheme which should help deter drivers
from speeding up or down Huddersfield Road. Many drivers have been
going in excess of 40 mph, even near the school where the speed
limit is 20mph. The use of residents to help in the fight against
speeding motorists is already working to good effect in the
Midlands, particularly Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire, and there is
no reason why it should not be a success in Newhey."
Drivers caught breaking the limit would be sent letters about the
dangers of speeding - if they were caught again they faced
prosecution.
We also have a "Railmaster" version, designed specifically for
monitoring railway / railtrack traffic speed. Monitor speeds of
engines on the open track or control speeds in yards. An ideal aid
for Health and Safety monitoring of permissible line speeds.
Features include :
Powered by two Black & DeckerR VersaPakTM rechargeable
batteries, this radar gun offers hours of performance on a single
charge.
The RailmasterTM can be mounted on a tripod, and is compatible with
large speed display signs and personal computers (PC's).
Standard package includes:
A radar gun specifically for measuring the surface velocity of
water, for example river flow speed.
Our device enables the user to measure surface velocity from a
stationary position on the river bank or bridge
It provides provision for automatic correction the angle at which
the unit is pointed to the water flow.
